Pitbull sends private jet to Puerto Rico to evacuate cancer patients

Also this week, ESPN reported that Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was also loaning his plane out for relief efforts.

Hurricane Maria pummeled Puerto Rico last week as a Category 4 storm, causing tens of billions of dollars in damage and knocking out power to the entire island of more than three million people.

"I texted him. Five minutes later, he goes, "Check your email, '" said Barea, who spent about four hours in Puerto Rico, helping unpack supplies that included medicine and 32 generators".

Miami native Pitbull is being praised by a Puerto Rico congresswoman after the singer sent his private plane to the hurricane-ravaged island to evacuate cancer patients. Most people are also without water. Beset by food, water and fuel shortages, Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló issued a statement appealing for federal help for his "essentially devastated" island.

Maria is the worst storm to hit Puerto Rico in almost 90 years, according to The Wall Street Journal's Nicole Friedman, causing as much as $85 billion in insured losses. Mark Cuban was awesome, and all of the staff, with the plane situation.

Barea set up a YouCaring fundraiser with his wife, Viviana Ortiz, to raise money for relief shortly after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico.

"It's bad", Barea said.
