One dead, three wounded in Washington state school shooting

A student has died and three others were injured Wednesday after a gunman opened fire at Freeman High School, southwest of Spokane, Washington.

Their injuries are not known.

Spokane Public Schools, the Central Valley School District and the Mead District were all on lockdown.

Fire officials in Washington state say people have been injured and taken to a hospital after a shooting at a high school.

Emergency crews are responding to reports of a shooting at Freeman High School in Spokane County.

According to a school resource officer, there were 4 people shot.

The school has 327 students, according to media reports.

Freeman Store says parents are meeting outside in the parking lot by Freeman High School.

All Spokane South Hill schools are in lockdown as a precaution.

Gunfire erupted at Freeman High School in Rockford in Washington this morning as frantic teachers moved students to safety at a nearby primary school.

They were in stable condition, and family members were with them, she said.

U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers tweeted, "Awful - just hearing of the shooting at Freeman HS near Spokane".

At least five ambulances and a LifeFlight helicopter were scrambled to the scene as the carnage broke out at around 10.30am local time.
