3 things we learned as Eagles pass rush buries Washington

At this stage in the buildup to Sunday's season opener, the Eagles need little reminding that the Redskins have won the last five meetings between the pair of NFC East rivals, but quarterback Kirk Cousins has been a significant reason for the lopsided nature of this rivalry of late. Week one of the National Football League season is hours away, and the "City of Brotherly Love" is ready.

Naturally, quarterback Carson Wentz refutes the brutally honest assessment, insisting the Eagles had enough guys to create beneficial mismatches and just didn't.

Additionally Johnson, at least, should be able to reroute edge rusher Ryan Kerrigan, who recorded or factored directly in six of the nine Redskins sacks previous year.

The Eagles were far from ideal Sunday afternoon but did just enough to get the job done. Jay Gruden says the Redskins haven't had an interior defensive lineman of Allen's caliber in a long time.

"At the end of those games we were right there", Wentz said.

"I think it's important to what we do", Blount continued.

But he made several plays, too. "I think he's sometimes a risk taker".

From a talent standpoint, Doctson's fluid motions make him one of the most natural route runners at the wide receiver position.

It seems like the offense comes alive when they go with a tempo format.

"We need to start preparing for opponents throughout the week and start getting used to the blitzes and the different things that they have to offer and that will just clean everything up", said center Jason Kelce after the line's final preseason game together against the Dolphins on August 24.

"I get up for every game", he said. "He gets his head around". "We'll see how it goes, but I feel very good about where he is mentally and his approach to running routes as a receiver".

When Cousins was broached about Doctson at his weekly press conference on Wednesday, the quarterback was quick to point to some of Doctson's best attributes.

"They got a lot of great work for two days", said Pederson.

Cousins and his offensive line struggled big time against the blitz in training camp and in preseason games.

If I was going to throw some money on a game, I'd shy away from this one. "He was able to watch previous year and sit in on meetings and learn our offense". He watched some really good players, some veteran players do it a year ago.

"Maybe at certain times this year early on he was feeling good", Thompson said. These three are still fairly new to each other but, on paper, they should combine for a lively attack, provided, of course, that the O-Line can help Wentz remain vertical. "We've got to be on our P's and Q's and be even more sharp there as an offense, because communication is an issue and we have to do everything we've practiced and that coaches gave us an opportunity to see".
