World's oldest man, Holocaust survivor Yisrael Kristal dies at age 113

Once Nazi Germany took control of Poland during the outset of World War II, Kristal was sent to a ghetto with his wife and two children.

He immigrated to Israel in 1950 with his second wife and their son, and continued his confectionary business.

Kristal was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest man a year ago, when he was 113. Kristal was unable to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah in 1916 because his mother had died three months earlier and his father was a soldier in the Russian army at the time of World War I. Usually in Jewish faith, when Jewish boys become 13 years old, they become accountable for their actions and become a bar mitzvah.

Yisrael Kristal, the world's #Oldest Man, has died at the age of 113.

Local media reports he passed away on Friday. Yisrael Krista died when he was just one month shy of his 114th birthday.

Kristal was born in Poland.

Kristal, who worked as a candy manufacturer, is survived by two children and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

That changed last year, though, when he finally celebrated his bar mitzvah with his family, 100 years after the original date.

Oren Kristal said his grandfather gave no explanation as to the secret behind his incredible longevity. "He used to run barefoot through the night for many kilometres with a heavy package on his back, aged about 12 years old, smuggling alcohol between the lines of the war", Oren Kristal said.

"There have been smarter, stronger and better looking men then me who are no longer alive".
