White House renovations unfold while Trump stays at golf resort

The work includes replacement of the 27-year-old White House heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

President Trump tweeted on Monday that he was "working hard from New Jersey while the White House goes through long planned renovation". As of Friday, CNN reported there were already storage units filled with items from the West Wing out near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

Trump was expected to stay in New Jersey for 17 days, his first extended time away from the White House since taking office in January.

The renovation comes as Trump takes a "working vacation" at his property in Bedminster, N.J.

Donald Trump has been cleared out of the Oval Office - though not in the way MSNBC anchors might wish. Politico said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders didn't immediately return requests for comment.

Workmen installed new carpet in the West Wing.

Outgoing Press Secretary Sean Spicer gave reporters a tour of the White House on Friday, showing some of the around-the-clock fix work.

Cranes were positioned in front of the South Portico.

Though news sources quoted Trump as calling the White House "a real dump", the president denied that he ever said such a thing, while his spokesman said that he likes where he lives but has remarked before that the West Wing is somewhat run down.

In 1902, Teddy Roosevelt created what would later become the famous West Wing. New carpet, curtains and paint are part of the work that is going on in just a part of the White House.
