Roberto Aguayo waived by Buccaneers after bad preseason game

The No. 59 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft hit 32 of his 34 extra point attempts past year, the worst percentage among kickers.

One year later and Aguayo looks like he's in similar form after he shanked yet another extra point in the Bucs first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday. He was then brought out late in the fourth quarter for a 47-yard field goal attempt. "Unlucky", Aguayo said after the game.

Tampa Bay had to stick with Aguayo in 2016 after spending such a high pick on him, but the leash figures to be much shorter this preseason with the veteran Folk on hand. He never missed an extra point attempt either. "You just have to keep your head up move on to the next day".

During his rookie season, Aguayo made 22 of 31 field goal attempts and 32 of 34 extra point attempts. He struggled as a rookie, connecting on only 71 percent of his field goals.

He now has the inside track at the starting job as the only kicker on the active roster. I want to change this. He connected on 23 of 24 field goals during the Seminoles' national title run in 2013 and was a Groza award finalist in 2014 after converting 27 of 30 field goals. Obviously, not up to the standards that I want. I did some good things. I've just got to put it in the past.

After quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick hit paydirt from six yards out to give Tampa its first touchdown, Aguayo lined up...and missed the extra point. "It's a new day". Coach Dirk Koetter said it's something that will "definitely be talked about". "You're a kicker, you gotta make your kicks".
