Rajnath wishes sports fraternity on National Sports Day

Dhyan Chand with his sheer brilliance and panache made the game look ridiculously easy and rightfully was India's pre-independence sports icon.

As part of National Sports Day celebration, the Students Union of DBRAIT organized a thrilling volleyball match between staff and students (both boys and girls).

National Sports Day is celebrated on August 29th and is a national celebration of the sports people.

It was after the very first match of the 1936 Olympics where Dhyan Chand's magical stick work led to posters appearing all over Berlin to come see the Indian magician Dhyan Chand in action at the Olympic complex. He also went to give a few details about Major Dhyanchand that could be unknown still. The "New India" that PM Narendra Modi talks about will need total cleansing of the system and if our athletes achieve 1/10th of what Dhyan Chand achieved than we will have lots of medals in the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Recently, the Sports Ministry had written to the Prime Minister's office, requesting that Bharat Ratna be bestowed upon the highly revered hockey legend.

It is recorded that more than 400 goals were made in Dhyan Chand's global career, also that he would go on to play till 1948, at the age of 42.

Dhyan Chand was also known as "Hockey Ka Jadugar".

Dhyan Chand's autobiography "Goal" was published in 1952.

Born on August 29, 1905, the hockey wizard died on December 3, 1979 at the age of 74.

PM Modi while saying that India is blessed with vast sporting talent spoke about the importance of the National Sports Talent Search Portal to harness this talent.

He had said, "Any talented child, who has an achievement in sports, can upload his bio data or video on this portal". A total of 29 players have been selected to receive the honours this year. "The Ministry is launching the portal tomorrow".
