Now, his publicist has revealed that he was planning a return to the stage before he passed.

The news anchor says that planning a return to the stage sounds very much in character for the comedy legend.

Jerry Lewis, whose irrepressible zaniness and frantic creativity vaulted him to stardom as a comic movie star who wielded unparalleled green-light power at Paramount in the 1960s, died Sunday. Yesterday it was confirmed that comedian, filmmaker, and philanthropist Jerry Lewis died at his home in Las Vegas. But when the ceremony accidentally ended 20 minutes early, the weight fell on Lewis to fill the time.

Jerry Lewis was a terrific entertainer. A few of his more notable films includeCinderfella,The NuttyProfessor,TheKing of Comedy, The BellboyandThe Disorderly Orderly.

Lewis' best known films include 1963's "The Nutty Professor", 1960's "The Bellboy" and 1982 comedy-drama "The King of Comedy", which was directed by Martin Scorsese. Honoured with accolades at home and overseas, including a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1977, Lewis became known as much for his tireless efforts to promote awareness of Muscular Dystrophy as for his unique brand of physical comedy.
