What the global takeover looked like. "Despacito" is also the most-liked YouTube video of all time.

"See You Again", which became the most watched video in July, has also reached three-billion views, but needs almost 70 million views to catch up with "Despacito". And now the music video of "Despacito" has added a yet another feather to its hat by setting a new record. According to billboard.com, "Despacito" has become the first Spanish language song to reach the peak in more than 20 years.

YouTube released a chart showing how "Despacito" stacks up to other top videos. Besides, the original track's YouTube video is the website's most-watched video of all time.

The debate will continue about YouTube's value to musicians and to the music industry of course.

The song, which also features Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber has also broken the record for most weeks at number one on America's Digital Song Sales chart - at 14.

The track released in January 2017, crushed a short reign for "See You Again", which only clawed into the number one spot last month, topping the extraordinary four-and-a-half-year run of Korean artist Psy's "Gangnam Style".

"I'm super excited and grateful to everyone who supported the song and video on YouTube, and happy to inspire and impact so many lives", Khalifa said in a statement.

And "Despacito" is clearly leading the charge.
