Trump to Putin: Syrian President Assad Can't Have Land Liberated From ISIS

"The United States and Russian Federation have already achieved progress in establishing de-confliction zones in Syria that have prevented mutual collateral damage", Tillerson said, adding that he wants to work with Russian Federation to create no-fly zones, put ceasefire observers on the ground, and coordinate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Tillerson issued the statement on Thursday before heading to the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, to join President Donald Trump, where the USA leader will also have his first face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The United States (US) is prepared to work with Russian Federation on the establishment of "no-fly zones" in Syria, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Wednesday. Syria will loom large in their discussions. "In order to complete the mission, the global community, and especially Russian Federation, must remove obstacles to the defeat of [Daesh]".

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson raised the possibility on Wednesday of several joint steps with Moscow to promote stability in Syria and urged all parties fighting Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant militants in the country to avoid conflict with one another.

On July 4, a representative of Syria's opposition in Astana said the armed opposition disagrees with a proposal for Iran's military to monitor the areas because Iranian forces are armed combatants who fight on the side of the Syrian government's troops.

These are supposed to include no-fly areas, where no war planes can fly so as to guarantee the safety of civilians on the ground.

Moscow is staging a bombing campaign in support of Washington's foe President Bashar al-Assad.

"We do receive, unfortunately, direct and indirect messages all the time from many sides telling us how to do our work", Mulet told reporters.

He also signaled that US military action against Assad's forces in recent months is meant to achieve only limited tactical goals-deterring future chemical weapons attacks and protecting USA backed-forces fighting the Islamic State in Syria-not weakening the Assad government or strengthening the opposition's negotiating leverage.

"The Syrian people should determine their country's political future through a political process", the official added. "Lastly, Russia has a special responsibility to assist in these efforts".
