To reply to a story, simply tap the camera button while watching a story. You can also annotate it with text and stickers, just as if you were posting to your own Story.
Today a major Instagram update was released with new ways to reply to Instagram friends. So when words fail you, respond to a story with an authentic reaction video - or Boomerang, or photo.
Instagram is boosting Stories with an interesting new feature: ability to send photo or video replies to Stories from the people you are following. "From selfies to Boomerangs, now you can be even more fun and playful when you respond to friends", Instagram said in a blog post. At the other end, your buddy will get your photo / video response in their Direct message inbox, along with the thumbnail of the original Story.
This may not seem like a huge feature update, but it's likely to help increase the conversational engagement of Stories considerably. And should it prove to be even half as bad for Snapchat as Instagram Stories has been for the company, then the change will be much more important than adding a new button to Stories.
Make sure to update your Insta app to version 10.28 or above on your iPhone, Android, or Google Play device to use this new feature. The cool part is that you can use any of the photographic tools available to you such as stickers, face filters and more. All replies in your Direct inbox will be highlighted in blue, so you'll know the difference between a regular message and someone replying to your story.
