Multiple players named to award watch lists

The 41 Annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner will be held February 19, 2018, in Fort Worth, Texas. He also was recently named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, which goes to the nation's outstanding player. He has already thrown for 6,385 yards and 59 touchdowns in his two years at Washington. Hurts was a semifinalist for the award as a freshman in 2016.

Overall, White ranked in the top 10 nationally in completion percentage (67.3, eighth), passing yards (4,363, fifth) and touchdowns (37, eighth), while boasting the third-best passer rating (181.4) and the second-best yards per attempt mark (10.5) in 2016.

Last season, Buechele became the first UT quarterback since McCoy won the O'Brien Award in 2009 to pass for 2,500 yards and 20 touchdowns in a season.

Baker Mayfield's preseason resumé keeps getting better.

Francois was previously named to the Maxwell Award watch list and hopes to join FSU greats Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke and Jameis Winston among Davey O'Brien Award winners. From that list, three finalists will be announced November 20. The 2017 Davey O'Brien Award victor will be announced live Thursday, Dec. 7 on The Home Depot College Football Awards. Results from the Davey O'Brien Fan Vote will be combined with the ballots from the selection committee. Fan voting, which accounts for five percent of the total balloting, will begin on Tuesday, September 5. The award honors candidates who exemplify O'Brien's enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics. So instead of competing in his senior season in high school, he was on the field for his first year of college football. Jim McMahon and Steve Young each won the award once, while current BYU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ty Detmer won the award twice. Founded in 1997, the NCFAA and its 23 awards now boast over 800 recipients, dating to 1935.
