ITV confirms Carolyn McCall as new chief exec

Prior to that, she was also chief exec of the Guardian Media Group.

ITV plc (ITVPF) said Monday that Carolyn McCall, the former CEO of discount airline easyJet plc (ESYJY), will lead the broadcaster next year following the departure of Adam Crozier earlier this year.

She will be paid an annual salary of £900,000, plus pension and possible bonus and incentives.

"The opportunity from ITV felt like the right one to take".

McCall said: "This was a really hard decision for me to make".

Crozier built the broadcaster's worldwide business during his seven-year tenure at ITV as part of a successful turnaround strategy.

The broadcaster's shares were the top riser on the FTSE 100 in early trading, jumping nearly 3% to 180p. "This provides broadly the same remuneration opportunity as to ITV's previous CEO". "easyJet's innovative approach has driven both passenger loyalty and growth and delivered sustained success for easyJet's shareholders".

She has also been a non-executive director of United Kingdom fashion house Burberry since 2014 and sits on the Board of the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and is a Trustee at the Royal Academy. Early frontrunners to be McCall's successor include Peter Duffy, the company's commercial director, and Andrew Findlay, its chief financial officer. McCall has also held non-executive director roles with Lloyds TSB (2008-09), Tesco (2005-08) and New Look (1999-2005). Crozier officially announced his decision to leave in May, but his departure had been rumored for months, with reports circulating late a year ago that the broadcaster had called in recruiters to look for a successor.

"She is seen as being very good with people, at building a strong management team around her and at the ability to "work the room", Liberum said.

While the broadcaster has seen its audience share slip like the other major United Kingdom networks, Crozier has focused on building out worldwide production and distribution revenues.
