Is Anne Hathaway the new 'Barbie'?

While Hathaway doesn't come from the stand-up comedian world like Schumer, she has shown a knack for comedic timing in films like "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Get Smart".

Sony's "Barbie" movie is apparently negotiating with Anne Hathaway to star as the lead, according to The Tracking Board.

Anne Hathaway may just be taking on the role of a very dolled-up icon in the coming months.

The "Barbie" movie is said to be in the vein of "Splash", "Enchanted" and "Big".

Schumer is set to star in the upcoming comedy feature I Feel Pretty, also bowing in 2018. Up-and-coming Australian director Alethea Jones (Fun Mom Dinner) is in negotiations to helm the life-in-plastic film.

The "Barbie" film's story follows a doll who is banished from the otherworldly Barbieland because of her unconventional appearance and attitude.

After going on in an adventure in the real world, the main character would have then return to Barbie-land with a newfound acceptance of herself.

Hathaway, who won an Oscar in 2013 for "Les Miserables", most recently appeared in the Neon sci-fi film "Colossal".

Amy Pascal, Walter F. Parkes, and Laurie MacDonald are producing the Barbie movie while Mattel's Richard Dickson is executive producing. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Hathaway is now in negotiations to play Barbie, with the deal dependent on whether Hathaway's schedule is amenable to Sony sticking to their planned June 29, 2018 release date.

They include a spot in the ensemble cast of next summer's Ocean's Eight, as well as Nasty Women, the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake that casts her alongside Rebel Wilson.

She is repped by CAA and Management 360.
