Warriors' Green heads NBA All-Defensive First Team

Green has been named to the All-Defensive First Team in each of the last three seasons, becoming the first player in Warriors history to earn three such honors. Finally, he got one. "There are five guys out there at a time", Green said. He was one of only three players to finish the season with at least 130 steals and 50 blocks. His defensive win shares, which show the amount of wins Green added because of his defense, was plus-5.4. He was also first in Defensive Box Plus/Minus. The Spurs have now been represented on the NBA All-Defensive Team in 27 of the last 30 seasons. For all his faults - a sometimes hot temper and a unusual propensity for kicking people - this is one of the best, most adaptable defenders we've ever seen in this league, and a model that all modern defenders should strive to replicate.

Green was a decisive victor, receiving 73 of the 100 first place votes and a whopping 434 total points. Green won the Big Ten Player of the Year award his final season - a year in which the Spartans ended the regular season in a three-way tie for first-place in the Big Ten. What's even more impressive is his ability to protect the rim at his size. The fact that Heat forward James Johnson didn't receive a single vote in the All-Defensive team category is.

Both Bradley and Thompson move their feet as good, if not better, than anyone in the National Basketball Association, and could make a case for first-team honors. This award is much sweeter.

"I'm thankful for the opportunity to go out there and do what I love everyday", said Green upon accepting his award. Green starts at power forward but spends considerable time at center - while also playing point forward on offense.
