Philadelphia 76ers turned down trade for Jimmy Butler

Which means they either don't think Markelle Fultz is head and shoulders better than the rest of the players in the draft - or they're acquiring picks to try to make a trade for a big star.

A report from Chicago Tribune noted that "as of Sunday, the talk (Jimmy Butler trade buzz) is based more on speculation than reality".

The Philadelphia 76ers could have acquired Jimmy Butler, according to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

Despite continued public comments that they don't plan to deal Butler, Adam Zagoria of FanRag Sports reports that the Celtics are planning to package several first-round picks to make an offer for him.

On Monday, the Celtics were front and center regarding the league's biggest storyline, as their trade of the No. 1 pick to the 76ers became official.

The Celtics hope a core of Isaiah Thomas, Al Horford, Butler, and Heyward will put them on par with the Cavaliers immediately in the east.

So what would be the potential consequences of trading away Butler?

There's also no guarantee in this Age of LeBron that the Celtics aren't just stockpiling picks to build for the future while remaining relevant. However, the Celtics and Bulls were unable to come to terms on a suitable deal.

The Chicago Bulls are expected to have a busy offseason.

However, it is Jimmy Butler's future with the team that is now up for debate. During the six-game playoff series against the Celtics, Butler averaged 22.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

If the Celtics don't end up landing Anthony Davis, it appears as if they're ready to deal their high draft picks in another direction.
