Pop star Taylor Swift took some time from a brief hiatus to congratulate Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook on his 2017 NBA MVP Award.

The 28-year-old Westbrook received 69 first-place votes, topping James Harden with 22, Kawhi Leonard with nine and LeBron James with one.

"Huge congrats to Russell Westbrook on MVP, that boy went out there and was a created player on 2k all year, F--in balled out", the Golden State Warriors star wrote.

Russell also set a new record of 42 triple doubles in a season, which is one more than Robertson achieved in a single season.

"To everybody in Oklahoma City who helped me go out every night and compete at a high level, I thank you for that", said Westbrook, who invited teammates on stage with him.

"But now to be standing here with this trophy next to me is a true blessing, man, and it's an unbelievable feeling, something that I can never imagine".

Taylor Swift delivered a congratulatory message following the announcement that Russell Westbrook was earning the NBA MVP award.

Green, who won Olympic gold in 2016 with Team USA, was named to the NBA All-Defensive Team for the third year in a row, leading all vote-getters with 198 points and 99 first-team votes. Gordon beat out Rockets teammate Lou Williams and former NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala for the award given to the league's top player off the bench. "I can't do this myself so I appreciate them".

Two of the best moments came during segments that didn't include the NBA's six individual awards. "This isn't an individual award, it's five guys on the floor everyday. You're the MVP. I'm so happy for you", she said.

Former Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams was given the SagerStrong Award for the strength he showed after his wife was killed in a vehicle crash in Oklahoma City.
