In a sudden turn of events, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister D. Jayakumar on Tuesday announced that the state ministers have made a decision to keep out jailed AIADMK leader Sasikala, her nephew Dinakaran and his family out of the party.
Though Finance Minister D Jayakumar, who announced the revolt after the meeting at Palaniswami's house, claimed the decision to keep away Sasikala family was "unanimous", some MLAs vowing allegiance to Dhinakaran questioned the ministers' action.
TTV Dhinakaran: A nephew of Sasikala, he was re-inducted into the party and appointed deputy general secretary by her shortly before she proceeded to serve the jail term, apparently to keep the hold on the party with the family. Though Panneerselvam commanded the support of just about 12 of the party's 134 MLAs, there has been public anger among the AIADMK supporters who hold Sasikala responsible for Jayalalithaa's conviction in a disproportionate assets case.
The Delhi Police issued the lookout notice against Dhinakaran in connection with the case registered against him for allegedly attempting to bribe an EC official to get the coveted "two-leaves" symbol for his faction.
There has been a move from both factions to reunite the party factions on a plan accordingly, O Panneerselvam to be the party's general secretary and E Palanisamy to remain CM.
Panneerselvam said he had launched the "dharma yudh" with the help of his supporters, including MPs and MLAs, in an effort to ensure that the AIADMK did not go into hands of Sasikala's family. "More than 1.5 crore AIADMK cadres wish that the family of Dinakaran should be kept out". "Our victory will continue", Panneerselvam said.
The lookout notice was issued as it was feared that Dinakaran, being an NRI, could try to flee the country. The accusation against the nephew of AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala is very serious in nature and must be probed thoroughly, with the book being thrown at offenders.
Dhinakaran says he doesn't want to fight with partymen, but will seek Sasikala's advice. "I will not be a cause of it", he told reporters on Wednesday. This seems to have in reference to the cancellation of the RK Nagar by-election after I-T raids on a minister. The twists and turns in this political journey still needs to hit the highway for a smooth ride keeping in mind the number game and personal dynamics.
Following her imprisonment, her loyalists elected Edappadi Palaniswami as Chief Minister.
Putting up a courageous face, he said he will tackle the situation."They can maximum put me behind bars".
Earlier in the day, speaking to a news channel in New Delhi LOk Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai urged Dinakaran to respect the party's decision. "This is preposterous", a senior in Mr. Panneerselvam's camp said.
