Under this program, nurses at the Phoenix VA facility's help line will be allowed to refer veterans to CVS' MinuteClinics when it is deemed "medically appropriate".

I say if veterans get access to beneficial care in a more timely manner within their community, it sounds like a win.

"Veterans in need of routine health care services should not have to wait in line for weeks to get an appointment when they can visit community health centers like MinuteClinic to receive timely and convenient care", he said. Despite a heavy spotlight on its problems, the Phoenix facility still grapples with delays.

To facilitate care coordination, the partnership will share electronic health information in the same manner that proved successful in a similar program launched in 2016 with the Palo Alto VA Health Care System.

Veterans Administration, the VA and CVS have partnered for a test program that will have the pharmacy chain's MinuteClinic urgent care centers treating some veterans for minor injuries and ailments.

"After patient consent, participating MinuteClinic locations will electronically send patient visit summaries to the patient's primary care physician at the VA", CVS explained at the time.
