Hanley Ramirez leaves game with hamstring cramp

April 16, 2017; Boston, MA, USA; Boston Red Sox pitcher Drew Pomeranz (31) delivers a pitch during the third inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.

Ramirez got his first RBIs of the season, hitting a two-run double with the bases loaded off Juan Nicasio (0-2) that made it 3-all.

"I think he's carried what he did previous year into this season despite missing the four games in Detroit", Red Sox manager John Farrell said.

Wright also was lit up in his only other start against the Rays, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in four innings last August 31.

Over the weekend, the Red Sox bullpen allowed just two runs in 14 1/3 innings, highlighting what has become an unexpected strength of the club in the first few weeks. It was the Rays third baseman's second hit against Sale in 23 career at-bats.

Pablo Sandoval had a two-run homer for the Red Sox, who won their second straight after losing five of eight.

Second Inning: Leading 2-1.

Boston (8-5) took three of the four games against Tampa Bay (6-8). With a 2-1 lead, he had struck out the first two batters before allowing a single to Sandy Leon.

Steven Wright took a step in the right direction Monday after putting up a stinker last week. Now he joins Martinez in 1998 as the only Red Sox pitchers since 1913 to pitch at least seven innings, give up no more than two runs and strike out at least seven batters in his first three games of a season.

"I'll be fine. I'll be in (the lineup today)", Ramirez said.

Steven Wright followed a spot start by working with former Boston Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.

Pittsburgh starter Chad Kuhl gave up one run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings, striking out six without a walk.

"Just didn't catch the ball and it ended up costing us three runs and ended up being the difference in the game", Miller said. "So you go in and kind of bounce some things off of him". The Rays would have runners in scoring position in the 3rd, 6th and 7th inning, but only were able to bring across 1 run off a Souza single to score Beckham.

Red Sox: CF Jackie Bradley Jr., on the 10-day DL with a sprained right knee, is scheduled to start in pair of games at Triple-A Pawtucket during an injury rehabilitation assignment before he is activated.

"It's a special day for the city, and I'm just excited to have that opportunity", he said. They finished '78 at 59-102, a step up from the 1977 team that went 54-107, but even that squad managed a 5-5 record through 10 games.

Betts hasn't struck out in 123 consecutive plate appearances, the longest streak by a Red Sox player since Denny Doyle's 159 in 1975. That allowed Mitch Moreland - who opened the inning with his third hit of game, a single off loser Tommy Hunter (0-1) - to score.
