Diamondbacks: LHP Robbie Ray, who didn't get a decision against San Francisco on April 6, is 1-1 with a 3.90 ERA with 37 strikeouts in five career starts vs. the Giants.
"He's doing OK", said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. Athletic trainer Dave Groeschner sprinted toward the plate and Bochy was right behind.
The Giants plan to put catcher Buster Posey on the disabled list Tuesday, NBC Sports Bay Area has learned, with Tim Federowicz getting called up to back up Nick Hundley.
Teammates who checked on Posey throughout the game said he assured them he felt OK. For now, Brandon Crawford will take over the responsibility. The fans here are rabid and love the Giants. If this were the case previous year, Trevor Brown would be the guy stepping in.
The Giants are exercising caution in case Posey has any symptoms that show after the immediate injury. Clearly, Walker was just as shaken up by his missed pitch as Posey.
Posey will be eligible to return when the Giants start a five-game road trip at Kansas City on April 18.
Matt Moore (0-1) will take the ball opposing Taijuan Walker (1-0) when the Giants host Arizona in their home opener Monday afternoon at sold-out AT&T Park after opening at the Diamondbacks' Chase Field last week.
"That was fun", said Parker, who pumped a fist as he emerged from his head-first slide. "I enjoyed it. I got fired up there".
Moore plunked David Peralta on the upper right arm to start the eighth, though it wasn't considered retaliation. Moore denied it was in retaliation for Posey.
Posey, the 2012 National League MVP, is hitting.333 with one home run this season.
It was like something you'd see in a Little League game.
"He's got some symptoms so we're being cautious", Bochy said. "Could I have sent (Moore) back out there? That's the luxury of having an elite closer". But the Giants have gone to this state fair a few times.
Hundley walked up to Bochy during the game Monday and joked, "it's about time you hit me cleanup".
