Police officers in California are trying to identify a woman with webbed-toes who claims to be a mermaid. She also told authorities that she is a mermaid, Fresno police said.
When she was found, her hair was wet, and she was mostly naked.
Officers described her behaviour as "bizarre" are said they were unclear at this stage whether her failure to give her identity was a result of medical reasons or simply a decision not to. She was found near the Eagle Springs Golf and Country Club in Friant.
The driver took her to the hospital, where the police questioned her.
The woman is 5 foot 4 inches tall, weighs about 150 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair.
Officials say she could be between 16 and 30 years old and either white and or Hispanic. "We're in the mountains". Fresno police say she is safe now and hope someone who knows her will call them. She added that the woman is lucky she didn't get run over because the cars just fly on that road, and there was a big wreck there just the other day. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department.
