Will Wisconsin cover as underdog vs. Villanova? NCAA Predictions 3/18/17

ORLANDO, Fla. - East Regional fifth-seed Virginia overcame a 15 point deficit to beat UNC Wilmington 76-71 in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Thursday.

FGCU made its NCAA Tournament name in 2013 when it won two games and reached the Sweet 16. On Thursday night, they leaned on their experience from previous NCAA visits down the stretch to defeat Virginia Tech 84-74.

"Obviously, we thought we might have a higher seed than that", senior guard Zak Showalter said.

I'm trusting my good friend Ken Pomeroy (note: we don't know each other) with this prediction. "We have two rooms in the hotel and one room is for studying".

#10 VCU 77 #7 Saint Mary's 85: The Gaels are in the round of 32 for the first time since 2010 and only third in the program's history following their win over the Rams.

After the bracket announcement, Williams tweeted out a video of him line dancing to celebrate the school's return to the Big Dance.

"He's done that throughout the year", UW coach Greg Gard said.

First thing's first: The NCAA Tournament selection committee did a awful job seeding the East Region, handing the defending champ and top overall seed such a tough, experienced opponent in the second round.

Every day in the NCAA Tournament is Senior Day, an occasion to reflect and try to hold off "goodbye" just a little longer. After missing the Big Ten tournament due to a death in the family, Khalil Iverson added 11 points and seven rebounds in his return. Both Allen and LeDay come off the bench. The Wildcats' record during the last four seasons is 129-16. And Wisconsin is a Top-10 defensive team with rugged players like Hayes, Ethan Happ, and Vitto Brown in the rotation. The Badgers rarely foul, give up offensive rebounds or allow easy baskets inside.

On the season, Wisconsin is averaging 72.4 points, 37.5 rebounds and 13.6 assists per game.

Hayes has been a bit of an enigma in the two seasons since Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker left for the National Basketball Association and he became the de facto focal point of UW's offense.

The second upset might look impressive, but a lot of pundits have pointed out that it was a just an upset in terms of the seeding.

3 The victor will face either No. 4 seed Florida or fifth-seeded Virginia in the Sweet 16.Wisconsin is the only team in the nation that has advanced to the Sweet 16 in each of the last three years.

P.J. Dozier had 21 points, 13 in the South Carolina's second-half rally.

That was just the beginning of Tech's first half issues.

As for Wisconsin's inside game, senior forward Darryl Reynolds said the issue is the discipline and decision-making capabilities of the Badgers' big men.

The Wildcats figure to have their hands full defending the deliberate but balanced Wisconsin offense.

To beat the Hokies, Maillet said the Badgers will need to pick up the pace and move the ball more.

KEONIG'S KLUTCH: When the clock is ticking down, Badgers guard Bronson Koenig isn't afraid to put it up.
