For 12 years, Riccardo Tisci came out with high-octane embellished pieces that resonated with stars like Madonna, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West. Waight Keller is taking over from star designer Ricardo Tisci. tisci left at the end of January after twelve years at the helm of the label. earlier in January Keller announced her departure from Richemont-owned fashion house Chloe. She's known to keep a low profile, preferring time with her family over time with the fashion crowd.
"Hubert de Givenchy's confident style has always been an inspiration and I am very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this legendary house's history", Keller said in an official statement. All that will change on May 2, when Clare Waight Keller, formerly of Chloé, steps up to replace Riccardo Tisci.
Waight Keller made her name by turning Pringle of Scotland from a rather staid knitwear maker into a fashion brand. Previous creative directors included John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, and Julien Macdonald.
This is the second high profile female hire in the past year, following the appointment of Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior. These recent appointments suggest a break with the fashion industry's status quo in which most high-ranking creative positions are generally run by men. The former is rumored to be going back to his Italian roots at Versace, a fitting place for his penchant for sensual, form-fitting silhouettes, while the latter's ready-to-wear has been most frequently characterized by its ease and wearability.
