3 new bomb threats hit JCCs

The Levite JCC in Birmingham has suffered four bomb threats since the beginning of the year and been evacuated each time, disrupting its preschool and exercise facilities.

A former journalist from St. Louis accused of threatening Jewish organizations nationwide has been indicted in NY on one count of cyberstalking.

Jewish community centers and other organizations in 43 states and overseas have received 140 threats since January 3, FBI Special Agent in Charge Rick Thornton said, including the Sabes JCC in St. Louis Park and the St. Paul JCC.

We are heartened by recent acts of solidarity between American Muslim and Jewish communities in responding to threats to both of our communities.

The threat came in through the agency's generic contact form on its website, JCC marketing and communications director Lisa Marucci said.

Juan Thompson's indictment was announced Wednesday in St. Louis. Numerous institutions have been threatened a couple of times. The federal case filed in Manhattan says he made the threats to intimidate an ex-girlfriend.

The FBI, Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies have been investigating the threats, but have yet to charge anyone with committing the vast majority of them.

"We will not let this threat deter us from our mission and the responsibility we have to be the safe, welcoming, inclusive and diverse communal town square for the generations of Atlantans who have relied on us", Powers said.
