Mercedes are the latest Formula One team to unveil their new auto, with Hamilton driving the Mercedes W08 at Silverstone in damp conditions on Thursday morning. "What I really like about this is how clean it looks but at the same time there is a massive amount of detail in all of the areas", he said.
"I'm excited for the new owners who have come in and I hope they do something new and I really think they're going to bring new blood, new ideas, new ways of engaging the fans in a new and unique way".
One thing that's very noticeable when looking at the Mercedes from the side - especially given the electric blue lines that run along the body - is hoe many different aero elements are working together to channel air to the back of the vehicle. "That's the exciting thing about life".
But Hamilton has been joined by Valterri Bottas at Mercedes, following Rosberg's shock retirement, and says he's fine with the change.
"There are people who are following me who have not been F1 fans for a long, long time, but one of their friends who happens to follow me or one of the other drivers has said to follow, and [they have] since started to watch the races". "If another driver is doing better, I want the challenge of catching up".
"The experience of previous year has helped me strengthen".
"I am still competitive, still hungry and driving at my best". I win the championship and I want to fight for it again.
"Last year we finished fourth so I see no reason why we can not improve on that", said Perez at the launch of the VJM10 at Silverstone on Wednesday.
Hamilton will next drive the new auto at two pre-season tests in Barcelona next week.
"But I don't think like that".
Hamilton, whose interests in fashion and music have grown over the years, said he could empathise with the desire to go out at the top. Then I see that vehicle and I'm, like, I think I'm going to stay.
They are also expected to be significantly faster and drivers have spent much of the winter working hard on fitness due to the added force the new machines will exert.
"Every now and then I have a thought about what I do afterwards".
Unlike other cars we've seen this year, the W08 doesn't have a "shark fin" or large stabiliser protruding from the engine cover, although it's possible the team will experiment with one last year. We're looking forward to seeing how the changes impact the racing when the season kicks off.
