Trump attacks media during lengthy press conference

"To be honest, I inherited a mess - at home and overseas - a mess", said the president, who has served for less than a month, adding that "ISIS has spread like cancer".

He also revealed an executive order on the travel ban is expected next week. "I just wanted to let you know, I inherited a mess".

"The press has become so dishonest that if we don't talk about it we are doing a tremendous disservice to the American people", the president said at the press event, according to Politico.

"I have never seen more dishonest media, frankly than the political media", Trump said, later slamming leaks to the press from the intelligence community - some of which led to the resignation of his national security adviser Michael Flynn. "This administration is running like a fine- tuned machine".

He also said he accepted that Russian Federation had interfered in democratic elections.

Trump says there is "distortion", but he hopes everyone can get along.

"The leaks are real".

It could be that the American people actually like a president who moves quickly to do the things he said he would do while on the election campaign...no matter how controversial those issues may be.

Mr Trump is also clarifying why he always refers to negative coverage of him as "fake news". "When they make something that should be good negative" that's when i have a problem.

He said the story should not be when, how or what his inner circle was communicating with Russian representatives but the leaks of classified information by the US intelligence community to the news media. "The news is fake", Trump said.

A Kremlin spokesman has denied that Russian Federation regularly communicated with Trump's campaign. "Were going to take care of it all", he said at the news conference.
