Oakland Police disarm, detain active shooter

CHP Oakland called the incident an "active shooter" situation.

There are unconfirmed reports that the shooter was shot by Oakland police. He was being loaded into an ambulance Friday morning.

The freaky standoff began after a sniper report near Golf Links Drive and 98th Ave. around 9 a.m. Bishop O'Dowd High School was on lockdown.

Nearby residents and businesses were also being asked to shelter in place.

The man was inside of a house pointing a rifle out of the window. His condition was not immediately known. As of 10 a.m. eastbound 580 had reopened.

Television station KRON-4 reports (http://bit.ly/2leWEJR ) that gunshots have been heard in the area. The California Highway Patrol said via Twitter the man had been "disarmed and detained".

Then, police video shows the suspect casually walking the streets, rifle in hand and one other unidentified object in the other hand.
