Martin Keown: 'Arsene Wenger has already made a decision to stay'

Arsenal's defeat last weekend effectively ended their Premier League title challenge for another year, but with rumours circulating that Wenger will be given a new two-year contract, it looks as though that change will not be coming about any time soon.

Will Arsene Wenger be at Arsenal next season?

After damaging defeats to Watford and Chelsea last week, the knives are back out for the veteran manager having delivered just three FA Cups since the club's last league success.

There's not doubt there would be a period of adjustment for Arsenal, as there has been at Manchester United post-Sir Alex Ferguson, but the club are on a sound financial footing and have some excellent players, so they may have their pick of elite bosses.

"If Arsenal lose, Arsene Wenger goes. It's all good buying top players, but if you aren't buying players with the right mentality, it's pointless".

"I think we played some players in front of others and I think we should have played more as a team and there was space to do so".

Gallas thinks that the lack of trophies in recent years is the main reason that Wenger is being criticised. You have to get stuck into yourself from time to time. But calling an entire fanbase "spineless" and "mentally weak" is, I'm guessing, probably not the way to engage said fanbase in that debate.

Can you be grateful to Wenger but still want him to leave? "I was watching Arsenal fans slating him [Wenger] and I thought he doesn't deserve that".

"At the beginning of the season, when you look at Chelsea and Arsenal on paper, there is not a huge difference". There is also the question of who you bring in to replace Wenger? Who knew we had so much power and influence?

"I am in sync with the club, now we have to focus on winning". I think Wenger is one of the best managers to ever grace the game but he has stayed at Arsenal a little bit too long and Arsenal should start the process of looking elsewhere quite soon.
