The health of former President George H.W. Bush continues to improve following an ongoing stay at Houston Methodist Hospital, according to a family spokesperson.
Barbara Bush, 91, entered the same medical center last Wednesday as a precaution after suffering fatigue and coughing. After a shot of antibiotics and bed rest, she is feeling "1,000 percent better".
Ophelia Buckleton said: "George W Bush so embarrassed to be seen in Trump's company he hid in a plastic bag #feels #InaugurationDay".
The statement, tweeted by Bush spokesman Jim McGrath, said the former president would remain in the hospital's intensive care unit for observation.
Spokesman: George H.W., Barbara Bush continuing to improve
Bush has used a wheelchair in recent years and was hospitalized twice in 2014, once for seven weeks with pneumonia and again for breathing difficulties. Removing the tube - a procedure known as extubation - would allow Bush to breathe on his own. She could be released as early as Sunday, McGrath said. Obama likely will leave a letter for Trump in the Oval Office on Friday morning.
As soon as the news of the hospitalization of the former First Couple became public, an outpouring of well wishes began.
George H.W. Bush's letter to Bill Clinton in 1993 has made the rounds on social media in recent months, with many commending the letter for its grace and contrasting it with the highly contentious presidential election of 2016.
The Bushes were married January 6, 1945, and their 72-year marriage is the longest of any presidential couple in American history.
