Windows 10 build 14393.479 available to Insiders on the Release Preview ring

This release updates Windows 10 versions 14393.447 or 14393.448 for PC and Mobile. The update is dubbed KB3201845 on Microsoft's knowledge base website. In addition to its new features, Windows 10 Anniversary Update contains security features such as identity and breach protection for business users. If Microsoft makes the changelog available to public, it will probably appear in Windows 10's Feedback Hub. That kit is now called "MDT build 8443", Microsoft recently announced.

Overall, Windows continues to be the dominating operating system on desktop computers with a share of 90.95 percent, followed by Apple's Mac with 6.74 percent.

After taking the Thanksgiving week off, Microsoft today delivered a new build of Windows 10 to the Insider Preview Fast ring. A summary can be found in this article. While Regular Joes might not mind putting up with bleeding edge software and a few bugs here and there, businesses and those that use Windows 10 in mission critical situations aren't very keen on taking chances with new updates. Despite building the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) - allowing developers to create a single app with common code across a wide range of devices, including smartphones - the continuing fall in Windows phone market share has made it far less appealing for companies to build or maintain apps for a diminishing number of users.

Consumer users of Windows 10 typically don't have the ability to defer updates. "This is an important milestone and signifies that this version has been validated by customers, OEMs and partners giving organizations the confidence to further accelerate deployments at scale", commented Michael Niehaus, director of product marketing for Windows 10 deployment, in a November 29 blog post. It tells you that Microsoft now gives version 1607 a corporate-worthy clean bill of health. Relevant media will also be available for download from Microsoft's Volume Licensing Service Center.
