An online stunt involving Trump Tower in NY and Google Maps caused quite a stir on social media.
Trump Tower, the president-elect's New York City residence, was briefly renamed "Dump Tower" on Google Maps, to the amusement of eagle-eyed Internet users. Another property of President Donald Trump located in Columbus, the Trump International Hotel and Tower was also rebranded to Dump International Hotel and Tower, Digital Trends reported.
Donald Trump's home skyscraper Trump Tower, in the news a lot recently after the photo above taken there went viral, has had a bit of a makeover. Google allows users to edit roads, businesses, and other landmarks in their Map Maker service, but the changes are typically reviewed and approved by moderators. The 58-story tower on Fifth Avenue was named Dump Tower by a cyber vandal on Saturday (26 November).
Changing a landmark name appears to be a manual process that needs authorisation from an employee. "Our teams immediately took action and have fixed the issue", the spokesperson said. This is probably done through Google's Map Maker application that is present in 45 countries that includes India too.
