Memphis park shooting may have been over phone

Memphis police continue to search for suspects in a fatal shooting where a 16-year-old girl was killed and five others were injured Tuesday night at Zodiac Park near the Oakhaven area of the city.

A 16-year-old girl died at the scene. The 16-year-old, 21-year-old, and 18-year-old girl were later downgraded to non-critical condition. Another group of witnesses said that most of the cars fleeing the shooting had MS plates.

Police said three people were taken to Regional One in critical condition, but their conditions have been down graded to non-critical.

According to police, six suspects came up to the victims and began shooting.

Police had cordoned off a section of the park, including a small parking area that appeared to be where the shooting took place. "No condition information was given", said police spokesman Louis Brownlee in an emailed statement.

Sources told us the bandanas were red, but police have not said whether they think there is any gang involvement.

Chester Anderson and Phillip Glayson were taking a walk when they heard gunfire.

"I'm guessing 15 to 17 shots", said Anderson, who immediately hit the ground.

According to witnesses, six people with bandanas covering their faces approached the victims and began shooting, and after that they left the scene in a tan vehicle, the publication claimed.

Neighbors said they heard 15 to 17 shots and saw a large group of young people, nearly all of them white, fleeing the scene in upscale cars, including a BMW. They left the scene in a tan two door vehicle. It also corrects the time of shooting to CDT, not EDT. About 16 shots could be heard.
