Jahangir Badar laid to rest

Senior politician and renowned leader of Pakistan Peoples Party, Jahangir Badar was laid to rest in Miyani Sahib Graveyard, Lahore.

According to family sources, the former senator was admitted to a private hospital after he suffered a heart attack, where he passed away.

"The meeting has been postponed because of three days' mourning announced by the party chief on the death of Jahangir Badar", PPP spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar told Dawn on Monday.

PPP leaders gathered in Punjab University Law College Ground to offer funeral prayers of Jahangir Badar.

He also had the problem of high blood pressure and his kidneys have stopped working.

Paying rich tributes to the services of the late politician, the president said the contributions of late Jahangir Badar towards strengthening of democracy in the country would always be remembered.

He became the chairman of Senate Committee on Parliamentary Affairs in 2009.

He was a close aide of slain PPP leader Benazir Bhutto. He was considered as the ideological worker of PPP and was among the top leadership of the party in Lahore. He had also served the party as central secretary general and faced hard punishments during the General Zia's regime but continued struggle for restoration of democracy in Pakistan. PPP co-chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif were shocked on the sudden news of Badar's death.
