Boeing to consolidate defense, space and security business

The company's St. Louis sites will pick up 500 workers and Huntsville with grow by 400 positions, with many of those jobs coming from Huntington Beach.

The company said Tuesday that about 1,600 positions now in Huntington Beach, California, will move to plants in three other Southern California locations - El Segundo, Long Beach and Seal Beach. Positions in Huntington Beach, CA will move to El Segundo, Long Beach, and Seal Beach also in California.

Boeing said today it plans to consolidate facilities and close its El Paso, TX, and Newington, VA, sites to operate its defense, space and security business "more efficiently". "These steps will help us be a stronger partner for our customers worldwide". The unit will he headed by David Pitchforth, managing director of the company's United Kingdom defence unit.

The maneuver by Boeing is created to simplify the company's footprint in the Strategic Defense & Intelligence System division.

In the first nine months of this year, profit in the company's defense and space unit was down 5 percent from a year earlier.

"Huntsville is a knowledge based economy and Boeing continues to invest here because our talent pool matches the needs of their workforce requirements", he said.
