Allen has sent the photos and CD to the prime minister and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. BJP MP Varun Gandhi, as a member of a parliamentary defence committee, disclosed defence details to arms manufacturers after being blackmailed with pictures of him with foreign escorts and prostitutes, said Allen in his complaint.
Allen was once a business partner of Verma, now out on bail and facing trial in the Navy War Room Leak case. Second, if the BJP acted, they would have had to blacklist Thales which was also there for the French Rafale aircraft deal.
"Any action against Thales may have jeopardised the Rafale deal". They also said that despite having the information, the government of India went ahead and signed Rs 58,000 crore deal for procurement of 36 Rafale Aircrafts. Moreover, senior BJP leaders clarified that classified information is rarely shared with members of the consultative parliamentary committee, according to The Economic Times.
Varun rejected these charges, saying he had not met Verma since 2004.
Verma was also arrested and later released in a case known as the navy war room leak, which involved the selling of sensitive secrets of the Indian Navy by both serving and former military officers.
"Earlier in the day, Bhushan told a press conference, ". contrary to previous announcements of getting 126 aircraft, the government bought 36 aircraft, paying double the price for individual units. "It certainly appears to be the case that something is fishy", Bhushan said. He has alleged that Gandhi is being blackmailed by the arms dealer Abhishek Verma who is out on bail.
Varun Gandhi, who is no longer on the defence consultative committee, said no sensitive information was ever shared with parliamentarians during meetings.
Amid media reports on Mr Allen's letter, activists Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav claimed they had accessed the documents sent to the Prime Minister.
"I am going to turn 37 now". The only reason why I even know of him is because his parents were members of parliament and was a respected family. Gandhi, however, refuted the allegations as baseless and said he had not met the controversial arms dealer since he was in London at the age of 22.
"These are attempts on part of Allen to defame me, and others named in the letter", Verma said in an email response to queries by ET.
