Bears agree to terms with free-agent DL Akiem Hicks

Trevathan and former Colts player Jerrell Freeman give Fangio perhaps the best inside linebacker tandem of any 3-4 team. The signing of Hicks also provides a major improvement to the Bears' defensive line.

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace has been a busy man over the last week. The Saints drafted Hicks in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Lions working to secure DL Akiem Hicks. Though unlikely to warrant IDP consideration, Hicks could compete for a starting job in Chicago.

Hicks finished last season with three sacks and 23 total tackles after arriving to New England from New Orleans in a late-September trade for Michael Hoomanawanui.

Also, according to Pro Football Focus, Hicks was 7th in defensive tackle pass-rush productivity last season, he was also 16th in run-stop percentage with the Patriots.

"I'm pretty excited to see how I will fare", Hicks said.

"Opportunity was really the biggest thing that I wanted to have in the organization that I chose to be with", Hicks said.

He has already excelled in two totally different atmospheres and defenses during his young career, so there is reason to believe he will do the same with his new team.

The Patriots may have their sights set on another defensive lineman.
