Instagram Belize authorities are investigating the death of 39-year-old ABC 7 Chicago news producer Anne Swaney, who was found floating in a river near her resort.
Swaney, was staying at the Nabitunich Farm Resort between miles 71 and 72 on the George Price Highway, and was reported missing by the resort's owner on Thursday night. Police Superintendent Daniel Arzu said that members of a tour group that Swaney should've been part of couldn't find her. When the trip returned, they "found her personal effects on the deck", and went in search of her, then called the police.
An autopsy on the body of an American tourist found dead in western Belize has determined that she was strangled. Swaney's head and neck had lacerations that led police to believe she had been murdered.
"She was a trailblazer in the digital news space and was one of our first website employees", said John H. Idler, president and general manager of ABC7.
Swaney was the executive producer of online operations at ABC7 Chicago. "There's always going to be a spot there that we will miss". Police said the man insisted he was just fishing and has nothing to do with her death.
