OR names ex-Michigan coach Brady Hoke defensive coordinator

As a coordinator, Hoke's sole focus will be on defense, and his defenses in Ann Arbor were always pretty solid.

According to sources, Hoke did have some other good coaching opportunities this winter before accepting the OR job.

After one year away from the game, Michigan's former head coach was hired Saturday as Oregon's new defensive coordinator. They especially began to feel better after the announcement that Jim Harbaugh would be taking over as Head Coach. "He's passionate, knowledgeable and tough, and has an outstanding track record of success from a defensive standpoint". Prior to that, he was the defensive line coach at MI.

Hoke is tasked with fixing an Oregon Ducks defense that ranked last in total defense last season, allowing more than 485 yards per game.

In addition to his stint as MI coach, Hoke also served as head coach at Ball State (2003-08) and San Diego State (2009-10).

Hoke, 57, was sacked from MI during the 2014 season after compiling a 31-20 record in four seasons with the Wolverines. His final season he went 5-7.
